International Joint Research Center for "Intelligent Computing and Biometric Recognition"
The International Joint Research Center for "Intelligent Computing and Biometric Recognition" operates through collaborations between the School of Artificial Intelligence at Tianjin University of Science and Technology and research partners such as the University of Surrey (UK) and Jeonbuk National University (South Korea). By facilitating faculty exchanges, joint graduate training, extensive academic interactions, and joint applications for national key projects, the center leverages the strengths of all parties to achieve complementary advantages and powerful synergies. It aims to gradually develop into a distinctive and influential international joint R&D hub in the fields of intelligent computing and biometric recognition.
The center is supported by the university’s young academic team, comprising over 10 researchers. It has received funding from the university’s "12th and 13th Five-Year Plan" comprehensive investment program for young academic teams. The team has recruited Professor Anthony Ho from the University of Surrey as a Tianjin Distinguished Lecture Professor, along with one Ph.D. from the UK, one from Japan, one from Canada, and two from South Korea, among other overseas doctors and postdoctoral researchers. The team includes two Tianjin Distinguished Professors, one first-level innovative talent of the Tianjin "131" Talent Project, and two third-level innovative talents of the same project.
The joint research center has undertaken six international collaborative projects in biometric recognition technology and intelligent computing. These include leading the Tianjin Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs project on "Academic Exchange and Research Cooperation in Multimedia Information Security Technology between China and the UK," international exchange programs on new theories and methods in biometric recognition technology involving China, South Korea, and Australia, and the 10th China Biometric Recognition Academic Conference (highly praised by Academician Tieniu Tan). The center has jointly published approximately 43 papers in internationally renowned journals and conferences. Multiple mutual visits and exchanges have effectively promoted international collaboration on new theories and methods in intelligent computing and biometric recognition technology.
The center’s industry-academia-research products have generated cumulative revenues of over 10 million RMB, and its achievements have been recognized with third prizes for scientific and technological progress from the China Light Industry Federation and the China General Chamber of Commerce, respectively.
This international joint research center aims to strengthen open scientific and technological collaboration by leveraging global innovation resources, fully exemplifying the leading and demonstrative role of international sci-tech cooperation bases. It strives to gradually become a distinctive and influential international joint R&D center in the fields of intelligent computing and biometric recognition.
